Updated additional review from my dinner on January 8th. 2026- I truly appreciate MAYAS Fish & Chicken, located at 3196 Burr Oak Ave, Blue Island, IL 60406. After a very disappointing experience earlier that evening at Good Life Soul Food Cafe (11226 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60628), coming here was a complete turnaround and exactly what we needed. The food at Maya’s is always cooked to order, hot, fresh, and delicious. I consistently order the chicken wings and French fries, and they are excellent every single time—crispy, flavorful, and served hot. Prices are fair, portions are solid, and there’s never any hassle. Not something I would ever expect in a gas station restaurant, but I ordered 10 wings and 4 catfish with fries. I ended up with 2 more meals out of the order.

First but definitely not my last time trying this place. BEST Philly cheesesteak I had in a VERY LONG time and definitely better than Charley’s which I loved. Big portion for $10 and the fries were on point too, crispy and fresh! Can’t wait to go back which will be very soon. 5 out of 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This place JUST opened and the good reviews are what made me try it — big mistake. The chicken and fries were old, stale, and fried in filthy, overused grease. You can absolutely taste when oil hasn’t been changed, and it was disgusting. I should have gotten my money back instead of wasting time calling. Offering a replacement doesn’t fix serving food cooked in nasty grease. The mild sauce was horrible. If this is the quality they’re starting out with, I can’t imagine it getting better. I will not be back.
