During a recent visit to my old neighborhood in Spring Valley, I stopped at Maranatha Restaurant — a modest, buffet-style Haitian eatery that captures the essence of home cooking from Haiti itself. What first greets you isn’t the décor but the fragrance: rich, peppery sauces mingling with the aroma of fried meats and simmering legumes. It’s an unmistakable scent — comforting, nostalgic, and unmistakably Haitian. The exterior is unassuming, the kind of place you might drive past if you didn’t know better. There's no parking. The parking lot is very tight. Someone almost hit my car while I was inside. It was a good thing that I was paying attention. Inside this restaurant is unorganized. No one greeted me. People were just coming in and out. People were cutting in front of others to go get food. It was just a turmoil, disorganized.

They could've gotten 5 stars but they're constantly always out of pickliz. Nothing is worse than making your plate and at checkout finding out there's no condiments to go with your food. It's the equivalent to a Chinese restaurant being out of soy/duck sauce. Very frustrating

The food at this place it’s always fresh and delicious . I like to pick up time to time and have a great traditional island food. Clean and good price food! Highly recommended !

The food is always good. But the older woman cashier that works on Saturday mornings is always unfriendly and cold. She saw a line and that's when she chose to refill everything. She never says hi and is just unprofessional. I try to avoid Saturdays here bc of her. Other than the terrible customer service, the food never disappoints and always a variety of dishes to choose from.
