I would give the chef behind the sushi bar 10 stars if I can! It's absolutely the highlight of our trip in Denver. We ordered omakase, and the fish are so fresh. The chef told us most of the fish are from Japan by air, so it's amazingly fresh and delicious. Salmon belly was from Scotland, omg the taste was rich. We absolutely enjoyed the meal, and everyone was extremely friendly. We will for sure be back. Do not pass on this best Japanese restaurant in Denver area!
Had a great experience at Makizushico today doing the mid tier omakase. Sky sat us down and was such a kind hostess and server throughout our experience. They have 3 tiers; low -80 pp, mid - 100 pp and high - 120 pp. we took the mid tier and had so much food I could’ve exploded! Fendi was our chef and he took VERY good care of us, he even knew our likes and dislikes and took that into account when building our menu. It was fun to write this review, but I’m going to take a food coma nap now!
I don't know if there's been a change in ownership but something has changed. Three of us waited for almost 15 minutes even though they weren't busy because none of the empty tables were bussed. There were 5 more tables near ours that had used dishes on them and they stayed that way through our meal and even after we left (see photos). There were four men behind the sushi bar and no one said welcome or even acknowledged our presence. The server was poorly attentive. No one seems to care. The sashimi deluxe still had fresh fish, but was pretty skimpy with a lot of filler on a mountain of ice. The value just isn't there. Not sure what happened. They used to be top notch.
The omakase dishes were incredibly flavorful and varied with each bite. Some just instantly melt in your mouth (super white tuna was a favorite of mine). Others were charred or glazed, adding more layers of flavor and texture. None of the added ingredients felt like it overpowered the fish either. Pair that with a a bottle of sake and you're guaranteed to have a lovely night. The atmosphere is also pleasant and bright yet relaxing. The servers are also great and very thoughtful, making sure we were never with empty glasses and keeping the table clear as new dishes were being served. Overall, we had a fantastic night and would come back again.
Solid option for sushi. It runs on the high end of prices (Wednesday, early evening, meal with tip $38) but they do make edible art. Ample parking and seating. Friendly staff. Good restaurant.
