La Jaliscience Mexican Restaurant & Groceries

La Jaliscience is my favorite restaurant in Defiance. Not just Mexican restaurant, any restaurant. I try to order something new from the menu often and everything I've had there is great! The birria burrito and pollo poblano are two of my favorite dishes! The staff is always very friendly and the drinks are delicious! On Wednesdays and weekends, there is a lady there who makes the best guacamole I've ever eaten! As noted by others, the parking can be a bit wonky and sometimes it's better to park at the bank across the street and walk over. The grocery side is great too for finding spices and other essentials for home.

We were traveling through northwest Ohio over the holidays trying to avoid tolls and chain chow. La Jaliscience appeared right along our route on googly. I cannot say enough how happy I was. The tamales are homemade and remind you of family. Sauces are made from scratch and tended without hurry. These folks love preparing food and it shows. Heads up: La Jaliscience is a grocery and restaurant in an unassuming storefront on the corner of E. 2nd St and Douglas St in Defiance, OH. It's a location and building that was probably a convenience store or service station in a previous life, so pay attention so you don't miss it. Both the grocery and the restaurant are clean and inviting, and they are separated in such a way that any activity from the grocery doesn't intrude on your meal.

This neighborhood market, grocery store, resto and family owners have been around Defiance for a long time. My first encounter with this local gem was over twenty years ago on my first visit to this Ohio town, and it’s still around with improvements, enhancements and is still great overall! A terrific family run business. From its jam-packed with a wide array of dry and can goods on grocery shelves, great meats, extensive local baked goods, and a much renovated and expanded restaurant and really nice Mexican-style bar! Best Mexican I have had since being in college in San Antonio. Fresh ingredients and delicious. The margarita was amazing as well! Great prices as well.
