Get the mole poblano, Mexico’s national dish. I’ve struggled to find mole poblano that I adore in the area. The dish is notoriously difficult to master. Without the right balance, components jut out instead of blending into an abstract cohesive whole. The version served here is really delicious. Mole poblano is a complex sauce that blends about a dozen strongly-flavored ingredients including chilies, nuts, seeds, fruits, spices, and chocolate. The process is a labor of love. It results in a fruity, savory, nutty, smoky, bittersweet sauce with a hint of heat that’s usually served on plain chicken as a blank canvas. Make no mistake: the sauce, not the protein, is the star of the plate. You’ll want to mop up every bit of the mole with some tortilla. I also appreciate that we get complimenta
We really enjoyed our lunch here! Very good Mexican food and large portions. The burrito bowl was fantastic. Cool ambience, nice staff and very clean.
I had an awesome lunch here. I have wanted to try their location in Allentown but have never made it so I was excited when I saw they were opening in Bethlehem! I had tacos and a mango lemonade. The tacos Al pastor were delicious. The lemonade was even better. I think this is easily my new favorite taco place in the area and I really want to try their entrees. I will be back for sure!
Fantastic food and a very welcoming vibe! La Cocina del Abuelo offers a unique menu that goes well beyond the usual tacos and burritos—the birria tacos were outstanding. We had a party of six for dinner and everyone loved their meal. It’s BYOB, which is a nice bonus. Freddie and Abuelo were incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. The Bethlehem location is still in its early days, while the Allentown restaurant is well established, but the quality and hospitality are already there. Casual but nice ambiance. Overall, a five-star experience with great food and warm service. Can’t wait to go back!
Such a great restaurant, we were in town snowboarding at blue mountain and wanted Mexican food, the food here is so delicious and actually taste fresh. Service here is amazing, waiter treated us with such respect and was so friendly. Definitely recommend coming here. not enough business to be honest.
