Great selection of smoked fish! Nice little cafe in Astoria for sandwiches and clam chowder. We had the smoked salmon and tuna sandwiches. Both were very tasty.
The variety and quality of the smoked fish at Josephson's is amazing. The smoked Chinook is the best I've ever had; picked up some smoked sturgeon too, and can't wait to try it. Very friendly and helpful staff, and if you can't get out to Astoria they sell on-line too. I recently made my first on-line order and received it two days later. While it was only shipped 90 miles to Portland the ice packs were still frozen!
At the Josephson's Smokehouse in Astoria ( established 1920), Watching our cold smoked salmon being prepared on bagel with capers and shallots sprinkled on top .
Very good lox, nice people. I’ve been wanting to come here for a year, but it never fits into our schedule, so I was excited to finally eat here. We ordered the sweet basil salmon lox bagel and clam chowder. The salmon was very good. It reminded me of the texture of toro sashimi. I will definitely be back to buy some to take home. If you’re like me & prefer some crunch to your bagel to counterbalance the squishy nature of cream cheese & lox, perhaps mention that you want your bagel more toasted. I will do that next time. The clam chowder was too heavy on the potato for our preference. More of a thick potato soup plus clam, but perhaps it was just this batch. Other reviewers seem to love it, so we’d be willing to try it again another time. I suggest they move the drink cooler to the fro
Happened to stumble upon this place and boy, am I glad we did! Upon entering the store, we were welcome by the sweetest staff member and so many options to buy different flavors of smoked fish including SALMON JERKY!! I’ve never had salmon jerky and was a little skeptical to try but the black pepper bag we bought was out of this world!! That bag didn’t last long. We also ordered the clam chowder and lox on a bagel. Both were delicious and now that our trip is over and trying multiple places for clam chowder, my favorite was from here. Hearty and seasoned perfectly!! Before leaving we bought another bag a salmon jerky and a couple cans of smoked salmon to bring home. I hope to visit again one day-I know exactly what I’m buying next time :D
