Ironclad Golf

A must play! From my perspective, it was a beer garden with 9 holes to play around on. After playing for the first time last Saturday, it’s definitely an 18 hole course with a beer garden and other options. It’s evident the staff are working hard and everywhere I looked I could tell work was being done or on the schedule based on weather etc. It definitely takes money and a very committed team to bring a course back and they are well on their way. It’s a fantastic layout with a great eastern North Carolina feel to it. I’ve been golfing for over 30 years and being a veteran, I’ve played many courses throughout the US. I was pleasantly surprised with this course today, I play weekly at several different courses and to be honest I was skeptical after reading some reviews. The driving range and practice areas are nice and staff was pleasant. The starter (Joey) was very nice and informative with info on several holes and course areas. The fairways are Bermuda grass not yard grass and is cut at the correct levels. The greens are well kept and quite nice, not too fast and not too slow. A couple looked to have been aerated recently but were plenty puttable . All in all my partner and I have found a new regular course to add to our list of favorites. Keep up the good work Ironclad, it's paying off!

Actually 3.5 ⭐️ This is a classic - it has a really good layout, but it needs some TLC. The “pro shop” is in the driving range shack. The cart is gas, but it’s fine. No GPS. The tee boxes are 50/50, and rarely level, but you can work around them. The fairways do have their own issues, but again l don’t feel like it negatively impacted the round. The only yardage markers are the traditional 100/150/200’s. I didn’t see any of the sprinklers marked. No issues with the bunkers. Some even appeared to be removed for pace of play. The greens do have some disease, more on the back than the front. There’s more light and breezes on the front. But oddly I didn’t feel like it impacted the play. Played today, 7/24/24. Tee boxes in great shape. Fairways were awesome. All greens were top notch and rolled really quick. Golf carts were nice. Cart paths were good. Great layout. Great price. Beautiful course. Will play again if I am in the area.

The place is awesome! I personally enjoyed the range that has true targets and green mock- ups to get the wedges tuned in prior to my round. Truly coming along great. The starter shared some awesome golf history to include Jordan Spieth (king of saving par) holding the course record back in his early days. The fairways are healthy to say the least. As I’m sure it’s been said a bunch but will come with time is the health of the tee boxes and greens. While I understand the greens and the time associated with trying to maintain them the tee boxes all could use some leveling and general maintenance I found myself on multiple holes attempting to find somewhere that the ball wouldn’t be above or below me. All in all this place is awesome and I hope to see it continue its upward trend. The staff
