I-Chi Mein - Asian Noodles & Chinese Food

A Must-Try New Spot for Authentic Chinese Noodles I recently visited this new noodle restaurant, and it instantly became one of my favorite places in downtown. The menu offers a great variety, from classic hand-pulled noodle soups to flavorful stir-fried options. I ordered the beef noodle soup, and it was outstanding. The noodles were perfectly chewy, the broth rich and well-balanced, and the toppings fresh and generous. My friends ordered stir-fried udon and spicy noodle, and all gave a thumbs up. The ambiance is clean, modern, and welcoming, and the staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Even during busy hours, the service stayed efficient and warm. Prices are very reasonable for the quality.

We had an amazing experience at I-Chi Mein. We ordered the braised beef noodle soup and the Chongqing spicy noodle soup, along with the octopus balls, and everything was absolutely delicious. The noodles were the perfect thickness and texture and tasted incredibly fresh. The broths were rich, and flavorful. The customer service was outstanding, and the loose-leaf teapots were such a nice touch for a very cold winter night. Even in the heart of downtown Rochester, it truly felt like being transported into someone’s home. The food, and hospitality all felt warm and authentic. We will definitely be coming back.

The pan fried dumplings were hot and crispy. The octopus balls were great as well. I was surprised by how refreshing the pork bone ramen was compared to similar soups I have tried at other establishments. Very light, and the noodles are super chewy. Restaurant was very clean and the servers were also very attentive. I would recommend checking this place out of you are a fan of ramen and looking to try a unique spin.

I was really looking forward to trying this spot and adding another go-to noodle place to the list, but our visit left us a bit underwhelmed. I had the braised beef noodle soup, and my partner tried the zhajiang noodles. The black bean paste sauce on the zhajiang noodles was unexpectedly sweet—so much so that it overpowered the dish and made it hard to appreciate (or even notice) any other flavors. The braised beef noodle soup was okay but didn’t quite live up to the promise of a rich, beefy broth. The flavors were on the mild side, and the beef itself was chewy and lacked the depth we were hoping for. That said, the bok choy was perfectly cooked and added a nice fresh touch to the bowl. The staff is very friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The food was delicious, I especially liked the octopus balls. The atmosphere is really nice, and the place is kept very clean. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous!
