Great library masquerading as an old church. Archives are surprisingly deep and the children’s librarian is world class. A must stop for anyone traveling in the area.

The Hubbard is a beautiful building with lots of cool history. Their childrens section is large and has comfy spots to sit and read with your kiddos. Computers open to the public and a vast selection of fiction and non fiction to dig into.

A little gem of a library housed in a gorgeous historic building built to house it in 1880. Today the Hubbard Free Library is a cultural hub serving the community with a diverse range of programming and special events for all ages.

Today I had a horrible experience at the Hallowell Library Story and Craft time. The librarian who was reading the books during story time bullied my 1 year old daughter and pointed at her and called her “crazy” for no apparent reason. I would not trust ever bringing my children back to this library.

I have lived in Hallowell for thirty years and have always had a library card. Full disclosure: I am a trustee of the library at this time. But I just have to share how the library has blossomed both physically (come in and see all the improvements) and programmatically over the last few years. It is in large part to the leadership of director Mark Blythe. He has been an inspiration to staff and to the Board. He is leaving the library to enjoy his retirement and we all will miss him so much. He has made a huge difference. Thank you Mark and best wishes!
