Brian Niles is one of the most caring business owners I’ve ever met. He went above and beyond to share insight into the coffee roasting industry for a graduate business project and every roast I sampled (Harmony, Ethiopia and Costa Rica) were also amazing! While Rosie’s blend will always have a special place in my heart, the other blends sampled are also very flavorful. As a fun fact, the Rosie’s and the Harmony blends are the best for creating latte art!
House Cup is the kind of place where you might meet a new friend (as I have), the staff might get to know you so well that you recognize each other at a Marc Maron concert, and someone else might comment on your hair cut, all of which might out you as maybe coming here a little too often. However, it's worth it, because the staff is obviously wonderful and fun, and the coffee is so good that it's the only hot brew I enjoy anymore. House Cup beans are in my cabinet to make my own hot and cold brew. Plus, staff and customers will love up your pup when you bring them in for a pup cup and mourn with you after you've had to say goodbye to him or her. I'm excited to bring my new rescue in to meet the gang.
I'm a standard drip-coffee kind of guy, and of all the local options only the Head Nut comes even close to the quality (and the thrift) of a House Cup coffee. Staff interactions usually run between polite and Cheers levels of friendliness. If you bring a thermos you can fill up for a buck (and skip the line). They don't phone in the self service station - the four options out on a given day have been properly brewed and (when I don't come in within an hour of closing time) are warm-to-hot. Lots of add ons too - spices, different natural and artificial sweeteners, four dairy/non-dairy milk options. Bagged coffee is $20 a pound, more than I usually want to spend, but the four I've tried have all been excellent and well worth the price. For flavored coffees The Head Nut is better, but if you'
I stopped into House Cup today to grab a Chai and take a phone call. I've only been there once and thought I'd give it a go again. I ordered a large Chai, my favorite! I was bummed when I discovered it tasted mostly like warm milk vs. Chai. I typically don't make a big deal about it but for $6.30 (about the same price as Starbucks!) I felt it was necessary. I let the barista know and she kindly made me a new one. The second one, made by someone different than the first, tasted like a coffee vs. a Chai. I was confused since I saw her use the Chai concentrate. With that said, I finished and didn't bother saying anything else. Future recommendation: if people are enjoying a coffee, cappuccino or chai at House Cup, it would be amazing if it was served in an actual cup vs a to-go cup.
What a delightful gem. My wife and I love small coffee shops and this was exactly what we were looking for. The ladies running the shop are so cheerful and funny. The esthetic of the coffee shop is warm and cozy (think central perk cafe). Great music playing and the coffee is phenomenal. We tried their seasonal Lattes. The batista's embodied the creative dream of the names in the drinks. If you have a few moments and need a cup of coffee or a latte we would highly recommend this place. In case you're wondering our milk wasn't cold as a previous commenter mentioned.
