Homecooker

Found the Homecooker on Maps and wanted to give it a shot. We have been traveling for over a week and some homecooking would hit the spot! The food was good! It needed more seasoning for my preference but everything we tried was cooked correctly and we enjoyed it ( especially after a little extra 🧂 S&P). I had some roast beef 🐂 a piece of salsbury steak green beans and soup beans 🫘 with cornbread. My wife has the fried fish broccoli 🥦 casserole and a piece of butterfinger cake 🍰. The desserts here are 🔥🔥🔥🔥. We travel through this area a few times a year and I will gladly stop here again to further explore the menu.

This is home cooking at its best. Doing a 34 reset. Lunch was a large bowl of soup beans with a hoe cake. Dinner was the Appalachian Salmon patty meal. It came with 2 patties, 2 sides, I got green beans and broccoli casserole and a hoe cake. If I had known it was so much food, I would have taken half to go. Both waitresses I had today were wonderful. They are doing renovations on the truck stop part. Also, if you're in and hurry, they have a hot deli. The restaurant is open from 0600 till 2030. Deli is open 0600 till 2100.

The food is always good as is the service. HOWEVER, the truck stop itself has a few BIG issues. The reason for the 1 star is to alert owners/management to realize how Handicap unfriendly they are. There aren't any Handicap parking spaces in the lot for trucks and that is REQUIRED by law. Then once you get in the building, their renovation has blocked off the shortest route to the diner area. They are people and drivers that are handicapped and cannot walk far. At least you can put in a door to get through. Maybe the American Disability Association should invest this issue.

Home cooked meals, good people, great coffee. Try the breakfast!!

Best fried chicken we have ever eaten. Perfectly crispy and moist. Totally amazing food for a small truck stop. We have eaten here numerous times and have always enjoyed it. One of our favorites is the chicken and dumplings. (Maybe a bit more chicken in the chicken 'n dumplings though) The vegetables are close to the taste of grandma's homemade. Highly recommend for locals and travelers alike.
