Hokie's BBQ & Grill

I like to try different barbecue restaurants in towns that I visit. I don’t recall seeing any that offerer “pulled “ brisket but I thought I would give the sandwich a try. I own two large stickburner smokers and have smoked lots of briskets, pork, and chicken so not new to bbq. This meat was stringy and tough and seemed to be more like oven baked very lean rump roasts. The slaw was delicious and the front house service was spot on, as I got a takeout order. Upside is that it was packed, the restaurant itself was very impressive and I’m willing to bet their other menu offerings are good. Just recommending to smoke and serve true sliced brisket or take the “pulled beef” off the menu and maybe offer a chopped beef version. Delicious BBQ here with all the fixins'. Great rustic decor with plenty of seating for big groups. The BBQ chicken was tender and moist. The pulled beef was tender and lean. The nachos were huge...regular and large. Great services by these ladies.

After driving all day on our way to Florida we stopped for dinner and we can’t say enough wonderful things about this place! The ribs were delicious fall off the bone tender. The owner was kind and generous and he went above and beyond to make our stop worthwhile! We ended with the amazing sweet potato pie. A must have! We will definitely be back!

Decent BBQ joint that seems to VERY popular with the locals. For the area it is probably one of the best options. It absolutely doesn't compare to what I'm used to at my regular joints in New Orleans, Texas etc. etc. During my first visit I was considering making a return visit to sample their burger but after looking at pictures of the burger and from my experience of their BBQ I just think I'm not going to ever be motivated enough to make a return visit as to me it just doesn't ring my bell as I've been so spoiled by Gonzo's Smokehouse in Luling, LA (best in the WORLD as far as I'm concerned) Austin, TX BBQ (second places-ish with other Texas joints) and Kansas City BBQ (always fighting for the top spot)... First time at Hokies and was greeted by a very friendly server. I ordered the ribs via the combo and received the double portion. On the side, some potato salad and fried okra. The salad was different, I'd could call it dense, seasoned to perfection. I couldn't figure out if I tasted something smoky or not. Good salad! As for the okra, it met the mark, but it is hard to mess up fried okra. As for the ribs, they were very tender, but I enjoy a little "pull" when I bite off the bone. Flavor was good and the sauce was about average.
