Hen House Restaurant

The Hen House is only open certain days of the week, but the food, atmosphere & service were wonderful and our little Happy Paddlers group from PA enjoyed our time in MD at Tracks & Yaks for their Winter Lights Rail tour. Chesapeake chicken, stuffed shrimp, Atlantic salmon, chicken & deep fried ribs were ordered by our group of 8 and everything was delicious. Most notably for 3 of us, were the onion rings that were very tasty. We will definitely be coming down to MD again later in the year.

I can't believe I have lived only a half hour from this place and never tried it, cause it's super tasty! Old school fried chicken to die for and homemade bread that tastes exactly like my grandmother made it back in the 70's. Just some very well done home cooking mixed with extra fresh seafood and it's just done right, so don't miss it if you're in the area!

On my drive back to Western Pennsylvania yesterday, I stopped at the Hen House Restaurant near Frostburg, MD for lunch. I've been here before and had their fried chicken, which they are famous for, and which is delicious. However, yesterday, I had their stuffed shrimp which was also very good. The shrimp are stuffed with crab meat and topped with a creamy sauce. I ordered a side salad with blue cheese salad dressing and potato salad. Both the salad dressing and potato salad are homemade and very fresh. Hot rolls rounded off the meal. The server was friendly and helpful. Dining room is spacious with plenty of room between tables and is very clean. I'll be sure to stop here again!

I have always been wanted to stopped at the Hen House, but never had the opportunity to do so. I finally did for lunch. I ordered the crab cake and it was really good. The pickles were delicious and fresh. This crab cake did not have a lot of filler but a good chunk of crab meat. My family member ordered the salmon and it they absolutely loved it. I did try a bite of the onion rings and the batter tasted kinda tasted like tempura. The onion rings were mediocre nothing to brag about, but were fresh. I would definitely come back here. Stopped by Hen House Restaurant for lunch on my way to Virginia, and I’m so glad I did. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience feel warm and inviting. Prices were very reasonable, and the atmosphere had a charming, traditional farmer-style decor that gave it a cozy, down-to-earth vibe. The food? Absolutely fantastic. Their fried chicken was easily one of the best I’ve had—crispy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. Definitely planning to come back next time I’m in the area!
