Gene's Root Beer and Hot Dogs

Genes is our favorite place to eat. Always satisfied never had a problem... but first time going since they opened this year 2026, we asked for 9 money dagsvwith heavy heavy onion. Got all the way home and all 9 dogs have no onion at all. Tried to call that was a no go. By the time id get back over there they would b closed. Everything else was correct and the server was absolutely wonderful. 9 dogs down the drain so sad...

What is there to say that hasn’t been said about this American treasure? The service was great followed with beautiful smiles. I ordered 3 chili dogs and a 32oz root beer. It all hit perfectly. I never wanted it to end. The music playing set you in a Time Machine back to the hay day of hotdog joints and roll n roll. For a brief moment you can forget all you worries and just enjoy the simple things

First of all, Audrey is FANTASTIC. If you get her, you'll love her. This was my husband's and my first time coming here based on the Indiana Culinary Passport. Local spot with house made root beer and tasty toppings for their hot dogs. It's so classic, a real-life example of what Sonic is trying to harken back to but can't really claim. You drive up and a car hop will bring your food and rest your meal on the window like old times. Prices are excellent, food is solid (really enjoyed the hot dogs; fried and onion rings were fine). Husband definitely recommends the slaw dog if you like spice (order the slaw on the side to control your spice levels). The root beer is smooth and flavorful. Polish w/mustard and kraut, fried mushrooms, & small root beer, all cheap and delicious. They remove the stems from the shrooms and that improves them exponentially. I've driven by this place a million times while visiting clients outside of Indy, and I got tired of Taco Bell so I finally stopped by today and it was worth it. Good food, but my most memorable part of the visit was the server Mariah. She has a lovely, calm, welcoming demeanor, and she doesn't know it, but I was on the verge of hot ugly tears ALL DAY until my interaction with her. I'll be back not only for cheap, hot food, but because a good memory was created here by a great employee. Nice nails, girl!

I came here with my family for the first time today. We tried the hot dogs with their house spanish sauce, their french fries and onion rings and the root beer floats with Gene's homemade root beer. Our server was super friendly and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our drive in restaurant experience. We will be back :)
