G. Chastaine Flynt Memorial Library

I recently reserved a study room at this library and was looking forward to getting some work done. While there, I asked a staff member for an Expo marker to use in the room. Unfortunately, the interaction made me feel very uncomfortable. When I asked for the marker, the staff member repeatedly clapped her hands and kept asking, “What do I need, ma’am?” in a tone that felt dismissive and impatient. I only needed a marker, but the way the situation was handled made me feel like I was being an inconvenience. I truly value libraries as welcoming spaces for learning and studying, so this experience was disappointing. I hope staff can be reminded that small interactions can greatly impact how patrons feel in what should be a supportive environment. I would much rather make the drive to Pearl pu

Today was my first and last time attending this library and I did not like how my family and friends were treated. I came in the library with my 3 children and my autistic nephew which is 2 years old and my friends. The staff in the back in the children section had such a bad attitude and wasn't friendly at all. My nephew was keeping up noise so I asked the staff if I could go into the reading room with him the staff rolled her eyes and had an attitude and said NO THAT IS A READING ROOM. So I sat back down with my autistic nephew trying to keep him quiet while talking to my friend. The library close at 4 today and I was aware of that. But for another staff to come from the front of the library at 3:40 and turn off the lights in the children's section of the library and she see us sitting t

Lots of great events for kids, weekly story time, read to the dogs and much more. Love the set up with lots of space to find your own little niche without crowding.

Aren't libraries awesome? I just love the whole concept of them! G. Chastain is very pretty on the inside and out. So neat and organized. The teen section was inviting and the children's room looked pretty spectacular! I wasn't able to get a library card because I don't have any utility bills in my name. They are all in my roommate's name. Is this a recent standard that's been adopted? Maybe it's normal. I guess I've had a library card for decades at my previous local library, so I don't remember how things were done. Anyway, I think it's a missed opportunity. People have such different living situations. It shouldn't prevent them from checking out books.
