First Light

Good lunch spot on a cold January day. The crab cake was perfect. Big and cooked perfectly. The coleslaw was delicious and I’m not a fan of coleslaw. Staff was attentive and helpful. Place has a good relaxed vibe.

We were sooo glad they were open for lunch on a cold winter day. We had the crab cake sandwich and fries and both were delicious. The portions were generous.

This is our go to spot whenever we come to corolla! 2 years in a row and my boyfriend and I are hoping to make this place a tradition! Corn beef hash was deliciously cooked, perfectly crispy and just the perfect comfort food. Crab cake benedict was absolutely to die for! Crab cakes were everything you’d want in a crab cake- no shells, very meaty and not a ton of filler. Truly phenomenal. Home fries are always crispy and hot! I try to convince all of my family to come here on vacation because we just love it that much!

We’re currently on vacation here in Corolla and were looking for a nice breakfast spot with my family this morning. First Light seemed promising and the wait at the entrance actually got us more excited. Usually, that’s a good sign. After being seated, we noticed a few mixed reviews online but were still curious and eager to try the food. Unfortunately, I have to be honest — the experience didn’t live up to expectations. We waited about 30 minutes for just a burger and some scrambled eggs. The burger was extremely dry and the bun was stiff to the point it made eating uncomfortable. I barely touched the fries, as they were overly greasy and lacked flavor. It’s rare for me to leave food on the plate, so even my girlfriend was surprised. First time here; last time here. Arrived after “lunch rush”. Place is approximately 50% capacity. Service is slow. Just shy of an hour for food to arrive. Well, 75% of our food. I’m still waiting. Tables on both sides of us had order problems. Missing complete orders for one or more people, same as our table. A portion of the staff are wearing uniforms from the Mexican restaurant in the same shopping plaza. Ordered beer, only half of the advertised drafts were available due to “waiting for a delivery”. Ordered an available beer….that keg was empty too. My son has been waiting for a refill of iced tea for about half an hour. Clearly no one on the staff has experience with hospitality services based on the lack of organization displayed. Update. The manager brought out my sandwich minus Fren
