Empresario Trail

We ran across this little gem of a restaurant while walking around Goliad Town Square. We had the chicken fried chicken, plus sides, and a burger, and both were outstanding. Great atmosphere in an old renovated building with interesting historical photos on the walls. The staff was friendly, service prompt, prices reasonable, and I highly recommend this place if you’re in town at the state park, shopping, touring the missions or just passing through.

Overall great experience. They just opened, but the service was extremely fast. Food was very good; our table ordered the stew, burger, chicken fried chicken, and the 16 ounce ribeye. Mac and cheese was really good- as was the steak. Almost like butter cutting through it. Drinks were really good too- the cactus coolers and the Texas tea were almost too good! My only complaint was we didn't know there was a kids menu (5yo and an 8yo). Everyone ordered from the "full" menu, and we did not see (also we weren't given) the kids menu until we were leaving saw them on the hostess stand. My son, 5 years old, did put almost the entire burger down by himself- he said it was that good! Again, not knocking them, I don't even think they have been open a month and they were fairly busy. I really don’t want to leave a bad review, but I want this restaurant to improve and thrive, so I hope the owners see this. My wife and visited early on a Saturday evening and there was only a party six present when we arrived. We were promptly seated and admired the changes to the restaurant. We ordered the Texas twinkies as an appetizer which were brought out in a timely fashion and were good. For the main, I ordered the 8oz filet mignon, medium rare, Mac & cheese and the baked beans. My wife ordered the chicken fried chicken, baked beans mashed potatoes. Here’s where it goes downhill, unfortunately. We waited for a good while after our appetizer was finished and cleared from the table for our main. I don’t mind waiting for good food, but this was excessive being it wasn’t busy.

TERRIBLE service and incorrect orders! Waited an hour and 40 minutes for them to make breakfast food only for it to come out wrong. When telling them it was incorrect, we were asked if we could just eat that instead. What? Who does that? You wait almost 2 hours for them to completely change your order and expect you to eat it? The manager was no help at all and blamed it on a new menu. Several customers left without getting their food because it took so long. Will NEVER return to this restaurant. Get it together people.

So far, several visits, we’ve had the quail, filet and chicken fried steak - enjoyed all, and we continue to look forward to our next visit!
