Got our lunch on the way back from Hawaii volcanic national park. We were greeted by peacocks, chicken, coffee farms, and rain. The food was good with vegetarian options.
We were so excited to find this food truck on our drive from Volcano to the South Kona coast. Living in California, we have no shortage of good Mexican/Central American food, and we rarely drive by a food truck without stopping. We ordered the carne asada burrito which was just as good as any we’ve had before — with a salsa that is definitely hot and flavorful. We also ordered the pupusas based on the recommendations in the reviews (2 bean/cheese and 1 spinach/cheese). Unfortunately, the burrito was done at least 5, if not 10, minutes before the pupusas. And, on their own, the pupusas were not as flavorful as we are used to. They come with a pickled cabbage/carrot salad in a small plastic ziplock bag, and that was missing something as well. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Food trucks always make me nervous on a random roadside situation, they are at the Miranda's Farms. Make sure you stop, you won't be disappointed.
Not meaning to throw shade, but I almost went to another taco place nearby which was in the lonely planet guide. Would have likely been the usual random dude rolling burritos, which of course is perfectly fine. This, however, is the real deal: Two Latin ladies who obviously know their shit, as you can tell by the menu and photos alone. It is divine, you can’t go wrong. And right next to it is a great coffee place, so you’re already set for dessert :)
I found this food truck, and the people operating it, absolutely charming. It was my first time eating El Salvadorean food, and I was very excited to try pupusas. They were out of the spinach and cheese flavor, so I got the (3) bean and cheese pupusa meal. It takes about 15 minutes because they make them fresh to order. They were like eating a small stack of pancakes with a bean and cheese filling and came with a delicious vinaigrette coleslaw and a small cup of really spicy hot sauce. I loved the slaw, but the pupusas were rather bland. I realized that I should have paid extra for some sour cream, it definitely would have made them taste better. They have two rows of picnic tables under a tent that makes a comfortable place to eat. I really enjoyed my visit and will be back to try the sp
