El Charro -South Main

My daughter thinks I travel to Harrisonburg to visit her at JMU. She’s wrong. I drive down from northern Virginia to eat at El Charro. It’s the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Food is absolutely amazing and service is phenomenal. This place is legit with excellent salsa and the white queso dip. If you’re passing through on 81, stop for a bite!

This El Charro is GREAT!! I cannot express how much joy and memories I have made here. This is the best Mexican restaurant you can find in Harrisonburg. When you walk in, you’re immediately greeted by a bright, welcoming, vibe and definitely fitting for the Mexican vibe. You have a very short wait time if not busy, if busy you might have to wait like 2-5 minutes. When you sit, you get some warm chips and good salsa. The menu is excellent with everything from tacos to burritos, vegetarian options (like a veggie quesadilla, highly recommended) and hotdogs for the little kids. My personal favorite are the shrimp tacos. The avocado and cheese and sauce on the side combine so seamlessly together. Ate here on a rainy Saturday. Wasn't overly crowded and the food was top-notch. Got the Enchiladas Verde with just cheese. Best enchiladas I've gotten in a long long time. Presentation was like something out of a magazine. Waiter was exceptionally poignant and attentive.

If you are looking for a delicious Mexican meal with attentive service, look no further. There are several locations in Harrisonburg. The portions are plentiful. Every dish option is amazing, so bring your friends.

Very good food. A lot of people with family, kids and friends come here. One strange thing which I experienced was when I ordered a margarita I was asked to show my DL/ID by the server. Well, may be their policy I guess. But no where else I was asked to show my ID when I ordered a margarita. Anyways that was not a big deal, the food compensate it all. The chicken tacos are delicious. This place is busy on weekends but you will get a place in no time. We were traveling and hungry and we made the best decision to stop here to eat.
