Doretha's Restaurant and Lounge

On a Friday afternoon at about 12:30 recently, the door was locked but open sign on. We had to call for them to let us on. We were the only two there and the man waiting on us definitely didn’t want us there. The tables hadn’t been wiped down and had thick sticky stuff all over it. One of us got a burger and fries. I decided I’d just get a piece of cake. They didn’t have it. Asked for a little gumbo which they usually have. They didn’t have it. There were 3 - 4 people working, we were the only people, so I don’t know what the hell they were doing but they wasn’t wiping tables or welcoming customers. We were traveling and in town looking for something different to eat. Found this place from the Google reviews which were good. Found it kinda on a back street. When we pulled in there were only 2 cars there. We thought no, and I thought the reviews were too good for it to not be good. It was early afternoon which may explain why there were many cars there. I got out of the car to go check to see if they were open. When I got out of the car and walked towards the building a lady hollered out of the drive up window and said they were closed. Super simple restaurant with a daily lunch buffet and great burgers!! Stopped in today because we wanted quick and I'm so glad we did. We each got hamburger steak from the buffet. Watching my diet, I added the cabbage and butter beans while my husband added rice, gravy and cornbread. Delicious! The ladies who we interacted with were super sweet and welcoming. We will definitely be back!

We ordered the bacon cheeseburgers with fries. They are big burgers, but just ok as far as taste. Menu says that was $13 each, plus a tea for each of us. They charged us $37.99 plus the card fee. We probably won’t be back. If you don’t like loud talk show tv, maybe get your order to go.

I'm not exactly sure what happened on our last visit. We had been there just the week before and had a pleasant experience. This visit we were completely ignored. The restaurant was about a third full so not very busy. The staff passed us several times without ever acknowledging us. After waiting 15 minutes we left. We are confused about our treatment. We have no plans to return.
