Don Jose's Mexican Restaurant

We’ve had Mexican food in a lot of places, and honestly didn’t expect to find some of the best in Alaska—but Don Jose’s delivered. The chips were hands-down the best we’ve ever had: warm, crisp, and paired with a fresh, flavorful queso that stood out for its quality ingredients. Every dish we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and served in generous portions. We visited on a quiet day, and the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Mateo, our server, was attentive and thoughtful—he double-checked ingredients for our child with a food allergy and shared helpful local tips without being over the top. If you’re in Anchorage and craving really good Mexican food, this place is absolutely worth it.

I loved everything about my experience here. The waiter was nice and was so polite when taking our orders. We started off with some drinks while we waited for our food. The drinks were huge and tasty(mango blackberry margarita). When the food came out… IT WAS TIME TO EAT. Everything was so good, we asked for some hot sauce and the waiter brought out like 3 different sauces. Took my leftovers home and killed it later that night. 10/10 Definitely would recommend if you’re looking for a Mexican spot.

Our server was really nice and the atmosphere was relaxing. The tables were extremely unique in design and was fun to sit at and look at it. The Jalapeño Margarita wasn’t that spicy and the taste of of the Jalapeños was quite refreshing. Food was hot and delicious, the portions were a great size. The chips they serve were not salty and the hot sauce wasn’t too hot but did tickle the throat. If you’re a person who can’t stand heat don’t eat it. They serve a very mild sauce as well. A great place to visit on a rainy day!

New ownership since we had last eaten and things have improved! Food was plentiful and full of flavor. Margaritas were delicious! We tried a sweet and savory one and neither disappointed. Highly recommend :)

Great atmosphere. Loved eating outside. Lots of gluten free options. The food was tasty and the service was great! Have returned twice. We had the taco tray, enchiladas, chimichanga. Better be hungry or bring someone when you come, portions are huge!
