Deutsche Ecke

Authentic German cuisine! Everything is HOMEMADE from SCRATCH! As an American I asked my European friend about ketchup for the schnitzel and he reminded me that's what the lemon was for lol it was so juicy and tasty, no ketchup needed! The pretzel appetizer was clearly authentic with fresh beer cheese, similar to the cheese from Oulemec in Czechia. The beer selection is perfection, highly recommend the darker schwartzbier, but Paulaner is the lighter go to. Dumplings are like none other. Red cabbage side is great, not sure if it's pickled but it's very savory. Potato salad is so tasty and original, definitely not like what Americans call German potato salad. No matter what you choose, you can't go wrong!

Atmosphere was naturally good as I went with a group if 30+ German Club people. In fact, they typically only open for dinner at 4 pm and to accommodate our group they opened up early at 2:30 pm. They also offered us a special dish not available from the menu. The food was actually very good, but I gave it a 5-star rating because half my plate was Grünkohl and I only got like 3 slivers (1 sliver=1/2 a small potato) and very little meet. Typically, when I go to a restaurant I have to ask for a container to take leftovers home which will serve me as another meal. This is the first time in a very long time, I had no leftovers to take home. However, overall the prices are very reasonable compared to for example the Biergarten in Portsmouth, though the menue itself is not very extensive

Enjoyed a great dinner at Deutsche Ecke. Was a little apprehensive at first, the shopping center was a bit run down. And then, I got to Deutsche Ecke: Growing up in Germany, the Knödel and Roulade tasted like my grandma’s! Delicious! And the cheese cake with apple slices was out of this world! New favorite spot when visiting Newport News! If I lived here, I’d Gert the lunch specials all the time. Proprietors were super-nice and enjoyed the conversation with them, a true family-owned gem. Go with confidence.

From the moment I received my food I could not stop eating and I did not leave a single bite. My standards are insanely high when it comes to food, and I must say this meal was perfection. I had a Jaeger schnitzel (which was as big as my face) with spaetzle, braised cabbage, and sauerkraut and I could taste the care put into it by the cook. The staff was friendly and service excellent. Come once and you'll come again!

We came to this place just on a whim because we love German food and had no idea there was a German restaurant in the area. We ordered soooo much and it was all amazing, appetizers, entrees, desserts all made to perfection and we cleaned every plate lol. Not to be dramatic but everything tasted 10/10!! Our server was also very kind, attentive, and knowledgable, we were grateful for her as well! we will definitely be back very soon :)!!
