Desi District - Maryland

We decided to try Desi District because it looked like an authentic Indian restaurant and grocery combination. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. We arrived early in the day and were among the first people to place an order. Despite that, it took over 40 minutes to receive just two items. We had to ask about our order three separate times. It honestly seemed like the food wasn’t even started until the second time we asked. Each time we checked, we were told they were “waiting on rice.” That explanation didn’t make sense considering every dish comes with rice—it should already be prepared. After finally receiving our food, no one apologized for the long wait. The cashier also had very dirty fingernails, which was pretty off-putting when dealing

They seem to be in the new business phase working out the kinks but the food was absolutely delicious. The Hakka noodles looked different than I expected but they were flavorful and the chicken in it was very tasty. The butter chicken was delicious however the mild was little spicy and did not come with rice so just a heads up make sure you order rice if you would like some. The butter Naan was fresh, but just OK. I forgot to take a picture, but I also got the chicken puff and I really enjoyed it. They were not serving food other than biryani until after 4 o’clock, which I didn’t know until I got to the front line. Luckily we were there only about 10 minutes before 4 so we just waited and got back in line and the food took about 25 minutes to be ready. I think they have to get some things

Loved the atmosphere and ambience. So fun and nostalgic. The street foods were great and the vegetables in the grocery section was very fresh.

Dry groceries are decent but vegetables are not fresh. Coming to the restaurant- I ordered egg fried rice , it tastes bland just rice, eggs and under cooked vegetables. Egg Hakka noodles are decent but that too lacks good taste. Pastries are good.

Delicious food, such a wide variety covering so many aspects of the Indian cuisine. So much more to try. Definitely going back. Agree with another reviewer on new business working out a few operational kinks. Wishing them the best!
