My husband and I went to DeLand Eatery for dinner along with his cousin and his wife on News Year’s Day after going skydiving earlier that day. This eatery is inside of the historic DeLand Hotel in Deland Florida. I chose the soup of the day which was their version of chili and it comes with sweet cornbread. I also got smoked chicken wings (4)with ranch dry rub. Both were good but different than my chili. My husband chose the grilled salmon with snap peas and rice. His cousin and his wife shared the blue lake chicken plate. It is chicken breast with bacon, cheese, honey mustard and a side of macaroni and cheese. For my choice of a cocktail I got the peacock. Upon arriving, we were not greeted by the young blonde female employee, even though she passed by us twice—there wasn’t even an “I’ll be with you shortly.” It made us wonder if we would have been treated differently had we been white. Eventually, a male employee acknowledged us and seated us wherever he chose, without asking for our seating preference. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the food was good; however, the portions were small for the price. If you plan on ordering orange or pineapple juice, you might as well get a mimosa since it costs the same. I’m usually a great tipper, but the level of service influenced me to tip otherwise. We went to DeLand Eatery for lunch on a Friday, and it was such a great experience. The restaurant feels cozy and welcoming, making it an easy place to relax and enjoy a meal. My friend ordered the smash burger with two patties, sauce, caramelized onions, pickles, lettuce, American cheese, and a Martin potato roll. I am not usually a hamburger person, but this was honestly one of the best burgers I have ever had. I ended up eating half of hers because it was that good. I ordered the Everything Rice Bowl with roasted oyster mushrooms, vegetables, egg, and added shrimp. It was flavorful and very satisfying, and we enjoyed sharing both dishes. Home Sweet Deland Hotel! This cozy Thowback antique place is defenitely recommended. The breakfast,historic cozy,setting and friendly folks will make you feel like you’ve been invited to the family’s country side home. Eggs,sausage,bacon and toast is the best breakfast I’ve ever had. We had the best greeters when we pulled into the parking lot, a flock of chickens, but don’t expect them to valet. As we entered we were greeted with a warm welcome which let us know we were in for a good experience. The complimentary pickles were a yummy surprise. We had the Dreambird and Steak Sandwiches which were excellent choices. Looking forward to dining on their outdoor patio.
