Dawson's Family Restaurant

To put it frankly, you have to know someone and get special treatment or just prefer food unseasoned to enjoy this restaurant. The chicken fried steak was the best thing on the buffet, the rest was subpar. When we saw they closed at two, we figured it must be very good eating so we rushed the next day to make it on time. The lot was decently full, well looks are deceiving. I asked for warm water and lemon and was given the mug shown in the picture. I didn't drink it so I'm not sure what was in it, but it was very indictive of the rest that was to come. Nothing against the atmosphere and function of the establishment but if you're looking for delicious comfort food unfortunately this isn't the place it looks like it would be.

I just want to say, if you are passing through Childress this is a great place to stop, eat and take a breath. Wife and I both had the chicken fried steak and it was spot on. But what impressed me the most was the fried okra, actually the best I have had since I don’t know when. Crisp, not burnt and breaded just right. My next visit, will be 2 orders of okra for me. And let me say that the service was great also.

Very friendly staff and good food. We had the buffet. There were plenty of choices. A salad bar, chicken fried steak, smoked sausage with bbq, catfish, chili, sweet cornbread muffins, fried okra, green beans, and mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious but the chili was a hidden gem. Would have taken a gallon to go if we hadn't been traveling. Will definitely keep it on our trip plans.

Great restaurant! Stopped in for breakfast on our way to Dallas. This is a family restaurant and the service was great. The food was plentiful, and the price was fair. This is not fancy food, this is the breakfast your granny makes you when you come to visit.

Great little buffet. Limited choices but all were good. Fried chicken, fried catfish, and a meat w/ peppers and onions. Mashed potatoes with two gravies and two vegetables. Good fresh salad with lots of toppings.
