Dan Zai Ramen & Sushi House

A local favorite since 2019 - this menu touches upon every asian-american cusine imaginable (ramen, sushu, dimsum, beef noodle, boba). Sometimes a line, but being a big place (it is central NJ after all), its never too long. So whats good here? The service. It is not normal to have such solid polite wait staff, and the management checking in with everyone during their meal (for an asian run place). I was impressed. Tuna Tartare was deliciously covered in some wasabi mayo and green roe-like toppings. Salt & Pepper chicken was nicely fried and topped with light seasoning, and not too msg-y. Love it here. There are so many options for even the pickiest of my friends. I had a perfectly cooked steak skillet. My husband had fresh sushi and sashimi it was delicious. Hibachi dinners were spectacular and special dietary accommodations were a breeze. The servers were attentive and kind. Can't wait to go back!!

I say this with respect to the service and staff - the food was simply not good. We ordered fried pork dumplings (they were fine), pork buns (that never came), a hot and sour soup (that teetered between having no flavor and slight hints of beef?), a fried chicken udon (which was also just okay), and a tonkotsu pork ramen (which smelled wrong, tasted like fish, and the pork had that reheated meat flavor). Genuinely will not return, and in the 4 years of us dating this takes the cake easily for worst dinner we’ve had together. Again, staff was kind and seated us quickly, the atmosphere and decor was nice. Things can only go up from here I suppose.

Dan Zai is a superb option for a variety of Asian dishes. Ramen. Sushi. Dim Sum. Poke bowls. Japanese curry. Tempura. There is something for everyone. They even have vegetarian ramen options. You can’t go wrong with any of their menu choices. The service was quick and efficient. Noticed they were doing a very brink takeout business while we were there. That’s always a good sign. Very highly recommend.
