Country Patches Bed and Breakfast

Country Patches was better than advertised on the website which pleasantly surprised me and makes me feel obligated to write a review and put some additional picture up on the owners' behalf. You could definitely tell that care had been put into the house from the little guest books on the tables to the little decorative touches. As others have noted, while the house is old stylistically, it has been renovated and is thoroughly modern (technologically, kitchen, rooms have individual heating). Our group had rented out the entire Victorian home so we did not get to experience the "breakfast" part, but we had full use of the kitchen to cook our own dinner and breakfast the following morning for our one night stay. I would definitely try to stay in one of the rooms with full whirlpool bath

First off, because there hasn't been any recent reviews, I will mention that this is no longer a bed & breakfast, but a vacation rental home where you rent the entire house. We rented this back in May of this year as a surprise for my sister's 50th birthday party weekend! It is a gorgeous home and well furnished. Lois was very helpful and friendly in answering all of our questions both in booking and during our stay.||||We loved so much about the house. It has everything from lovely 1800's details, to a fully equipped kitchen, to a nice porch with rockers for sitting outside in the evening. The only thing I would change is that there are two rooms connected, with the bathroom for those rooms inside the second room. Wonderful house for our large family to stay for a special time. We are from California, but our daughter got married in Lancaster County. Our large family--including four grandchildren--was very comfortable in this "home away from home" as we enjoyed celebrating together. Lois and Doug went above and beyond all expectations to insure our weekend was perfect! Delightful!

We happened to come upon this charming home after we were 'overbooked' at the Ellmaker House in Lancaster, a few miles down the road. We had reservations at Ellmaker for several weeks but were never told they accidentally overbooked us until we arrived, exhausted, at almost 9pm in the evening with all of our luggage. (I will do another review for this other B/B at a later point). We had a wonderful stay in the Royal Suite. I wouldn't put too much stock in the negative review after four years, as they clearly have done a lot of renovations over that amount of time. ||||It's obvious that they love this old house and have rescued a grand lady from a terrible fate. They've been renovating it since 1996 and have done some crazy things to update it, like tearing off the top of the house to create vaulted ceilings on the third floor.||||To us, the price was reasonable and 25% less than other places we have stayed.
