This little jewel is historically impacting. They offer a delicious simple breakfast, good hot/cold tea and coffee etc. Walk their WWII authentic memorabilia museum and also a train exhibit for free. Worth a visit!
I recently visited the Connellsville Canteen Museum and I have to say, it was a truly moving experience. The museum captures an important piece of history from World War II, and I was amazed to learn how the original Connellsville Canteen was run entirely by over 800 women volunteers. They served more than 600,000 service members and POWs, which is just incredible. The exhibits are well-organized and provide a lot of context to the community’s efforts during the war. I especially enjoyed the stories and photographs that depicted the atmosphere of the canteen back in the day. It really brought to life the kindness and support the volunteers showed to those passing through. In addition to the canteen's history, there is also a lovely display featuring models of the Indian Creek Valley Rail
Closed on Saturday. Donut tent is adjacent. On street parking. Look forward to seeing the indoor model railroad set up!
I stopped in for coffee and lunch. I found a great small museum experience of local history and the people that made it. It has a huge model train layout that runs during the week. If there is someone there to run it. It is a wonderful display. Everything was done by hand. Every Thing in the setup was built by hand. It is super detailed. The guy that built it even assemble the track by nailing the rail to The ties of the track.
Very worth stepping off the GAP for a few blocks (bike lanes on the new bridge too). Amazing WWII memorabilia with local stories and connections. And the model RR is the most impressive I’ve ever seen!
