Columbus, Wisconsin Public Library

Avoid this library if you have children. I came here today to bring my son to chess club, I also had my young daughter with me. As chess club was starting more kids showed up to the children’s area (to be expected), with more children here for chess there were more children here just with their siblings in the reading area. In all the libraries I’ve ever been to, both as a parent living in rural areas & as a younger man living in Milwaukee I’ve NEVER heard a librarian tell children to STOP picking out books to look at. None of the children were throwing books, being disrespectful or loud, they were just curious & this one woman kept telling them to stop pulling out the books. Staff were kind and welcoming, atmosphere was all that a small town library needs to be and more! Stopped in during my day trip using the Borealis train. They have a lovely children's area, a cute local history alcove, and they even shatter small town stereotypes by having a selection of BIPOC and LGBT+ books! GREAT job Columbus, you should be proud of your library, and show them your support!!

The local library in Columbus is wonderful. Really cool old building with a lot of history that has been updated to keep it modern for all the youth that come into the Library. The book selection is nice for the size of the library, and the staff are more than helpful when it comes to finding a book either on the shelf on to be ordered. The new head librarian is bringing some really amazing energy to the library with her outreach to the public and the youth of the city. I enjoy keeping tabs on the dinosaurs as they wreak havoc in the library during the winter. Looking forward to seeing how they use the next annex. Definitely stop by to sit by the fire and read a book!

Love hearing old women babbling on about metapause while I try to read my book. Ive never been so creeped out at a library before, it's just too bad I had to hear it coming from one of the staff members.

Spend most of the time in the kids area which is very well run. Play table has different themes depending on when you visit ranging from train, dinosaurs, Legos, cars and I presume more. Activities range from infant reading time to Lego club, Pokemon, reading to therapy dogs, sleepovers for stuffed animals and much more. They have a big selection of books locally, and through Linkcat, they can source books from other libraries as they become available which is great. There are a few computers set up for varying age ranges. Solid library of childrens movies for rent. There is a meeting/community room in the basement with an elevator as well.
