Chimi's Fresh-Mex

Went here on. Friday night for a quick dinner. There was no wait to be seated. We ordered our food it came pretty quick. The service was good I'll be back.

Mexican food just isn't the same for me since spending a couple of weeks in Cozumel eating that the places where you don't see other gringos. As Mexican food goes (outside of the local taquerias) this place is in the top 20% of the offerings in STL that aren't located on Cherokee Street. Things I liked: Enchilada combo offered a nice variety and their red enchilada sauce is pretty good. I've had their mole sauce in a couple of their other locations as well and found it to be pretty complex for a restaurant that primarily serves gringos. Chips arrived warm (as always) and lightly salted. The salsa was fresh tasting and had a good consistency - not too chunky yet not blended all the way to smooth. Just about right. Service is quick and accurate - always a big plus!

Was a pleasant surprise to find an authentic version this far up in the mid west. I was driving looking for something to eat and stumbled upon it. Food was good and fast out of the kitchen. Chips and salsa were above average small but mighty is the theme here. Take a chance and give it a try soon.

One of the best Mexican restaurants in STL! Their salsa – chunky with visible chunks of tomato and onion with cilantro – is great with just the right amount of kick. Their namesake chimichangas are fantastic. I don’t like rice and beans so I got a side order which didn’t include all the usual garnishments, but it was fantastic. Crazy fast service, too. I was in and out in 20 minutes.

We had dinner here. The food was good, but not great. Chips and salsa delivered to the table wasn’t the best I’ve had. The chips seemed tasteless. I had the taco salad for my entree, and the meat was tasty but overall lacked “salad ingredients”. Lettuce and a half slice of tomato… no black olives, no onions… none of the classic taco salad ingredients. I did enjoy the taco bowl, that was light and crispy.
