Charles Town Library

This library is fantastic! Super easy to become a member if you live in Jefferson County, and they have a great selection of books and other material. They have a great kids program, access to computers, and more. There’s a big parking lot, and parking is free in the 200 block of E Washington.

For a library in a town this size, this location has much to offer. Books are rotated while newly-released titles are given their own pocket of the building. Additionally, other multimedia is offered to view and checkout. As is typical of other libraries, PCs and internet are free for use. A modest-sized area to sit down with a selection is offered as well. The library does well to offer events with the local community.

A library card is only $5 and you can check out books for free as many times as you want. The front desk has always been helpful in my experience. There’s also a museum downstairs!

I like it here! The music and movement is great for my two and half year old! Miss Clarissa always involves my one year old as well. The only major problem is you have to live in Charles Town or someone in your family works there. Otherwise you can't take out books. It's not a public but private library. If you might have guessed. We don't live there. But I still recommend the children's activities!

I grew up attending this library and have nothing but terrible memories of the staff and facility. My insatiable love of reading came from my parents and absolutely NOT the Charles Town library. Now that I have my own young children and we attend the various local public library events, I have realized what a truly unfriendly and cold place this. I often visit WV and took my children to this library last summer. After a brief interaction with the current staff, I was so disappointed to see nothing has changed. What a shame.
