Chai Thai-Lao

I visited on a Friday around noon. Service was fast and friendly. The young lady taking and bringing out the orders checked on me several times. I ordered the pork egg rolls and Thai wings. I also had the Thai tea. Everything was cooked to order. Hot and fresh. The egg rolls were fried crispy and came with a delicious sweet sauce. The Thai wings were okay. They were fried crispy and came with a sweet chili sauce and sweet sauce on the side. I would’ve preferred mine to be tossed in the sauce. The Thai tea was sweet and had a nice flavor. The price was decent. I paid less than $28. Inside was clean and had a nice lunch crowd. I’d definitely return to try additional items.

When it comes to thai food, they are basically catering towards the "southern crowd." Foodies and well traveled people will know what I mean. I got the panang curry and it was mostly a soup, not a curry. Also, the thai flavors were kind of bland, no impact. Prices are also very steep for what you get. Dang Tawan is gonna give you way more authentic thai experience and much better value. The seating area is definitely starting to show its wear and tear and it wasnt all the clean.

Stopped in for dinner on our way home. The place was busy, so service was a bit slow, but understandable. The pad krapao portion was huge and full of flavor, with the Thai basil really coming through. The papaya salad absolutely delivered on spice (ordered level 5), but the overall flavor was a bit flat and could have used more lime juice and fish sauce. Overall, a great spot and I would definitely come back.

I love Chai Thai Lao! Honestly, how can you beat this place for $12 to $13 at lunch compared to all the unhealthy fast food options around Baton Rouge? The portions are huge. Two people can easily share, or you can do what I do and bring half home for later. Definitely try the Thai Glass Noodles if you want something amazing. The flavor is incredible and the portion is easily sharable. You are getting fresh cooked, family style meals here instead of wasting money at Chick-fil-A or other fast food spots. The workers are always so pleasant and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. I go weekly at the very least when I am in town, and it never disappoints. Highly recommend!

Might be one of my least favorite Thai restaurants we have ever tried. Flavors were just off, and Combonation Fried tasted like it was flavored with wet veggies. Meats were bland. A slight hint of basil was present, wish there was more to like. Wings, just don't waste your time. Egg rolls were decent. Tom Yum soup. Flavorless... just sour. Papaya salad bland again. However you will leave with your clothes and hair smelling like cooked oil and garlic. It's also so annoying that you stand and order at the counter and guilted into 18% tip for self-service.
