Calvert Library Southern Branch

The Calvert Library is a wonderful place with great services for the ENTIRE community. They fight to ensure inclusiveness for everyone, and it is such a joy.

This place is scary. This morning a man stabbed a woman. The staff constantly dismisses the homeless and mentally ill. When you tell them your feeling unsafe they make you feel like your the problem and the men following the young women and children around are victims. This is a public library, not a shelter. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets killed or assaulted. God help the young girls/women working or visiting because I know first hand they get followed and stared at constantly by the mentally ill and the vagrants. Something needs to be done.

Very helpful staff and great activities for the kids in the children's section

This is a very nice, clean and well maintained Library. The staff have always been very friendly and kind. Definitely lots to look at - many different sections, even some books for sale. The only con is that there are not many computer kiosks available now due to COVID, and it can get a bit busy mid day so if you’re there to work bring headphones. Otherwise a very happy place. I recommend going in the mornings when they open if you can - very peaceful 😊

Very helpful librarians and very patient! My 3yo nephew and I were able to update my library card after we've returned to Calvert County, and were able to get assistance in locating some interesting dinosaur books, while my niece used their study room to do a project for school with a classmate. There were so many books, many useful resources and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable experience, since we haven't been willing to do in person visits in years. I am very excited to get my nephew into going to the library and reading!
