CADL - Downtown Lansing

Today we went to the CADL to attend a black history mobile museum. I found this to be a fascinating exhibit with many rare photos, letters and videos I have never seen.

Not a huge library with that many selections. The okemos one is better. And the worker I dealt with today was very rude. She exaggerated so heavily about "the extensive damage" on my book that had one small water mark on the first page and none of the others. I was astounded at how flippantly she used the word "extensive." I mean extensive would mean there is structural damages to the book. They wanted me to pay for them to keep it. Literally. And then to rather easily rent it back out. And have zero issues with it. They would have put it right on the shelf the damage was so NOT "extensive," and rented it right back out "but not to YOU." She added. So I just bought the book. What a joke. It was $9 more dollars to just purchase the NOT damaged, and in perfect working conditions book. What a

Overall, great library. Staff are very friendly and they have two kid areas though they aren't as interactive as some libraries. It has two floors, the second with dvds, audio books and cds. They had tons of audio books and dvds, cd collection left more to be desired of but if you need Christmas music lots of cds for the holidays. And yes, they have books too and easy to find restrooms on second floor.

Wonderful library. Clean and bright inside with friendly, helpful staff. Parking upfront is metered and can be limited.

The book store in the basement is the hidden gem of the CADL. I could spend hours looking through the used book collection. I've purchased most of my home library collection from the bargain basement book store at this location. The hours are not the library hours, so check on that before heading over.
