Bentley House Bed & Breakfast

We had the pleasure of staying at Bentley House for 10 nights in October 2025. The Innkeepers, Sharon and John, are wonderful and were just a pleasure to deal with! Great location, just a block off Main Street in Poultney. Very convenient for visiting family and friends in the area. We started each morning with early coffee in the upstairs Den, followed by the daily breakfasts that were quite delicious! The nights were quiet and peaceful! The house was very clean, and the yard was nicely decorated for Halloween! Can definitely recommend if you're in this part of Vermont and looking for a cute B&B to stay at!

Pros: The location is peaceful and away from busy traffic. The new owner, John, is somewhat flexible — the good thing about him is that if you clearly tell him what you need, he’ll make it happen. But if you don’t ask, he won’t offer, even if he notices you need something. I enjoyed my omelette and a lovely dinner at Tasteful Station nearby. John also has some great friends, like Harry and Robert — both very kind and open-minded. Having them around made the experience more pleasant. Cons: The rooms could have been cleaner. The first one I was shown was still dirty, with cleaning supplies left inside. Awkward moments: John sometimes made loud political comments during breakfast service, even though no one brought up politics. He also complained that a guest came to breakfast at 8:15 a.m.

This was more than a delightful experience - it makes me want to move to Poultney. The Bentley House is sooooo much more than charming. Everywhere your eyes look, there is a new surprise. The wood work in the house is amazing. The wood floors and carpets given the house such a warm wonderful feel. I slept in the "Blue Room". The mattress was perfect, An extra blanket was readily available in the closet. The breakfasts were delightful - fresh fruit, juice, and some extraordinary egg or French toast creation - heavenly, There is room upstairs where you can grab coffee if you are an early riser, The coffee room has wonderful chairs to sit and gaze out the window, The Innkeepers are delightful, gracious, keep your coffee cup filled, and will catch you up on the town history.

Our stay at the Bentley house was fabulous ! The house is beautifuly decorated and just oozes with charm. You can spend an entire day just admiring all the trinkets and decor but what truly makes it special are the wonderful hosts, Sharon and John. They could not have been more hospitable and gracious to us. They informed of us of the history of the home, told us about the local sights and restaurants and also what the surrounding towns offered ! Our bedroom was so spacious and tastefully furnished and there was a beautiful tranquil sitting room close by that offered ,coffee and tea , just perfect for early risers, who need some time to decompress before starting the day ! The breakfast was plentiful and absolutely delicious. This place is a true gem and I would highly recommen

I wanted to show my Californian husband my roots in The East Coast for our 25 th wedding anniversary. This B and B did it all; fall colors, casual company, gorgeous architecture, timely decor, great breakfasts, advice on where to go and what to see, attention to detail for our stay. It was perfect.
