Ashford Dairy Bar

All in all a decent roadside dairy bar that I’ve stopped at a few times on my way back and forth from CT to RI. The food isn’t bad and it comes out in a reasonable amount of time if you get there before or after the lunch crowd, but you can say that about any place that sells food. Took about 10-15 minutes to get my food with five folks ahead of me in the order.

I just love the Ashford Dairy Bar in Connecticut. The service is always prompt and the staff always have a warm and welcoming smile. We aren't from the Northeast corner, however, when we're visiting J.N. Webster Scout Reservation, we always find time for the dairy bar. The ice cream and the fish and chips are delicious and leave a lasting impression. So, if you're ever on Route 44 in Ashford, CT, check out this wonderful establishment.

In case you haven't seen my previous reviews, this is my favorite type of restaurant, and I am all about the burger! So imagine my dismay when I drove all the way to Ashford and found they were temporarily out of ground beef! (Rest easy. More was delivered while I was there.) On this trip, I got the chicken sandwich. Please don't judge the sandwich by the picture. It comes with lettuce, tomato, and a special sauce... none of which I like. I just added bbq sauce. The food was hot, plentiful, and delicious. They serve both hard and soft ice cream, but I abstained this time. There are tables in the open and under cover. I highly recommend and will be returning for more!

I ordered chili, fries, and a double cheeseburger. The chili was disappointing. It was about a step above canned. The fries were decent, a nice shoestring style. The burger was nicely done, fresh, hot, and tasty. On a scale from 0-10 I would rate this 7.6.

This place has changed quite a bit since coming under new ownership. Ordered two cheese burgers and fries. The burgers were just ok, on the bland side and the cheese was practically non existent! Where's the cheese???!!!! I gotta say the fries were excellent!! Their prices are definitely on the high side, $30 for 2 cheeseburgers 2 fries and two cans of coke!! I could of went to a restaurant for that price. Lol!! Now for the ice cream, we got two small soft serve cones which were very good in size and quality but they were already melting when they were handed to us! And it wasn't a hot day 70 degrees out.
