What a gem in the rough. I was recommended here by a local yet didn’t have any expectations. I was blown away!!! I have a favorite restaurant in the area but now have the pleasure of having to debate myself on whether I’ll override for this location. The prices are more than reasonable. A generous omakase for $42. The hamachi jalapeño was scrumptious. The spicy seafood mix is so flavorful. Tasty rolls (I ordered the Romeo and Juliet, the Double Tuna roll w/ extra spicy my colleagues ordered one with scallop, another romeo and Juliet (do it!), more than I can recall honestly. You can’t go wrong here.
I should preface my review by saying that the best, and the most memorable, memory of this place is the high temperature of the water and soup they serve (which is nice on a rather chilly night), but other than that, there isn’t much to praise about. This is the very first restaurant I have been where if you don’t own a smartphone, you are not welcome here: the menu is entirely digital and they don’t even have a paper menu when asked. This is utterly unacceptable: this isn’t the first restaurant where the menu is digitized, but I have never had a restaurant where they don’t at least have a few paper copies of the menu for customers who either don’t own a smartphone, or don’t have a good connection that day. To me, this is basically saying, if you aren’t tech-savvy, you aren’t welcome
Had one of the best sushi meals in a very long time. Don't let the quaint cozy setting deter you from the amazing sushi and sashimi. Hamachi kama was a good portion, warm and flavorful ($12.50). The medium sashimi ($40) was worth every penny as it was a great portion and so tender and fresh. Ordered the seared chu toro with uni ($15) off the specials board and was perfectly seared and fresh. Service was very attentive. Will definitely be back regularly.
Returned to Amami Sushi and for sure NEVER AGAIN and will have others avoid this place as well. We got seated around 8:25pm on 1/18 and was told we had 2 minutes to order as kitchen was closing soon. The hostess was very rude and acted like she didn't want to be there. After we sat down, she came back a minute later and asked if we were "ready yet?" Continued to give us an attitude when we tried to order so we ended up leaving. I later called the restaurant asking to speak to the owner and the same hostess hung up on me. Not sure how the owner does his hiring but why bother running a restaurant if you're going to make people not feel welcomed?
Delicious take out, amazingly priced omakase $40 for takeout. The variety is great, the quality is high and i would eat it everyday if I could! They even sell sake and other appetizers to enjoy with your “treat-yoself” meal so go out and get some! Also the people are very friendly!
