This was our first time here. And a day later my family and I are still talking about how amazing it was. The tea, the food, the service, the staff….we went in not knowing what to expect, with an open mind and an appetite the extremely friendly staff walked us through the menu and every bite was amazing. I’ve had Ethiopian food one other time and it doesn’t hold a candle to these folks. We will be back. Thank you for a great experience and delicious food.
Amazing experience. The food was incredible ,flavorful and well portioned. The chef and bartender were both passionate about their creations, taking the time to give us some details about their creations. We’re so happy to have taken our first dive into Ethiopian cuisine and will certainly be back. I’ll also note that most of the menu is gluten free and celiac safe.
I love Abyssinian Kitchen and always make a point to stop here when in Portland. On my last visit, I noticed the portion size seemed smaller, or maybe the prices had just gone up. It felt more like a snack than a dinner, and cost $25 with the 20% gratuity they added. Food, service and atmosphere are genuinely top-notch, but I probably wouldn't go back given the price to food ratio and mandatory tip. There are plenty of other great Ethiopian restaurants in Portland.
Very highly recommended. My wife and I stopped in on Wednesday night. We shared a traditional combination of beyaynetu and awaze tibs. And, OF COURSE, injera, the incredible spongy bread at the heart of the cuisine. Abyssinian Kitchen's injera is the real deal, soft yet stretchy, with a comfort-food flavor of grain. Just right to tear into strips to snatch up bite-sized morsels of the meal. Beyaynetu is a combination of greens, vegetables, and dahl-like legumes. Each uniquely spiced. The greens cooked just right, still a little snap, and delightfully spiced. The red lentils mashed and the split peas quite soft but not mashed, both dishes distinctively and pleasantly spiced. The mixed veg was mostly cabbage and stand-out deliciously spiced. I would come back for that alone! The awaze tibs,
Vegetarian food review. I love it. The food is tasting even better than I remembered. The service is as usual…. Amazing. The lentils and vegetables and sambusas are my fav. I hope you love it just as much as I did. If you are with someone, order 1 platter. It’s perfect for sharing.
