Customer Reviews
We’ve been driven by A1 Diner countless times, and after reading about its long, rich history, finally decided to stop by on a recent trip to Acadia. The free street parking right outside the restaurant was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Just as surprising was the overpriced and just-okay food. I gotta say, both the inside and outside vibe of the place are a bit misaligned with the menu and food quality, and also the prices. We arrived at around noon and the menu unfortunately didn’t look any breakfast items as they stopped those at 11am. Instead, our options were burgers, sandwiches, and dinner plates. The menu was quite extensive and creative — it wasn’t your typical diner menu (Asian noodles?!) — but also, prices were steep for a place like this. A cheeseburger was $16+, with an
The friendliest staff ever. :) We drove 2 hours to check it out. Lovely spot, ample portions, great diner menu and a beer menu! The homemade mocha cake is exceptional. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and pescatarian options available for those looking for that. We ordered 2 drinks, an app, 2 lunches, and dessert and it was just $60. Public parking and handicap parking right outside. Located off the main strip in Gardiner.
Amazing Food! Our server Cassie was great! Friendly, fast and knowledgeable about the great variety of options available. The Finnish Mushroom pie was absolutely fantastic and my daughter ate liver and onions for the first time here and loved it. Great upbeat environment, off the beaten path treasure. The lemon coconut pie was delicious .
It's called A1 Diner, and that's exactly what it is. Everything you want from a real diner experience. Food is spot on, coffee was great, servers were friendly, cooks were getting it done!!! Only downside is that, I'm truly never going to be able to enjoy pancakes at home anymore, after getting pancakes with fresh Maine blueberries and REAL Maine maple syrup. Seriously, best pancakes I've ever had.
On a road trip through beautiful Maine and discovered the quaint little town of Gardiner...and right there, as we came in, was A1 Diner opened in 1947 in an old wooden railroad car. Great atmosphere, friendly service and American food with a twist. My sister and I had the Oaklands Farm hamburger with fries or chips. The meat patty is extra lean and topped with caramelized onions and melted Gouda cheese. My hubby had the Ruben and it was delicious and tried the Moxie (a canned drink from Maine that had a strong smell and taste simular to root beer, and wrapping it up...brother-in-law enjoyed a fried haddock sandwich with a slice of Hummingbird cake that looked delish 😋
