Xelas by El Sazon

I’d give 100 stars if it was possible! Our dinner at Xelas by El Sazón was an unforgettable dining experience. Their new fall menu is incredible! Every dish truly feels rooted in Mayan culture and is crafted with so much care. The flavors are bold, layered, and deeply satisfying. The cocktails were just as impressive: creative, balanced, and beautifully paired with the food. Service was friendly and attentive without ever feeling rushed. From the atmosphere to the art on the walls, everything about the night felt intentional and full of heart. I’ll definitely be back soon!

First time in and we LOVED it! If I could give more than five stars, I would. The atmosphere was nice and they have done a lot to dress up the building. Cristian provided an unforgettable dining experience by walking us through the various dishes, explaining the combining of Guatemalan food and culture with Minnesota. We felt like VIP’s from the moment we walked in as the whole staff was incredible. All that said, the food was the star here! Everything we ordered was as good or better than the last and it was a phenomenal value getting the three course meal. This isn’t just the best Guatemalan food in the area, it’s some of the best food in general. If you are anywhere near Stillwater, you are missing out if you’re not regularly visiting Xelas!

From the outside, this place doesn’t look like much—it’s tucked into a strip mall—but don’t let that fool you. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a warm, stylish space decorated with beautiful Mayan artwork that really sets the atmosphere. The food was absolutely outstanding. Every dish felt thoughtful and unique, showcasing flavors you don’t often find elsewhere. Our servers were wonderful—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, taking time to explain each dish and its origins. The cocktail menu is huge and creative. I tried one served in a large pineapple-shaped glass topped with a salted foam, and it was just as fun to look at as it was delicious to drink. Overall, this restaurant is a true hidden gem. We had a fabulous meal here. The drinks were fantastic, the beef tenderloin delicious, the guacamole was excellent, and we liked our rhubarb dessert and tres leches cake. We will definitely come back.

Phenomenal food and drinks. We'll be back plenty to try more. The pork shank stole the show and was absolutely delicious. The cocktails were delicious and unique. Can't wait to go back.
