While the deep dish pizza was not comparable with those from Chicago, the regular Honey Ham Pineapple and Capitol Supreme pizzas were great. Generous in toppings and had the right amount of sauce and cheese. The crust was thick enough and slightly crunchy along the edge. You can order a pie with 2 different toppings combination. I'd definitely come back again.
Got a basic cheese slice and a sasparilla soda. Slice was sufficiently cheesy. I'd like a little more crunch, personally. The slice held its shape well when folded and the sauce is a good consistency and taste. Not the best thing I've ever had but I wouldn't complain about hitting it for lunch. They make the sodas using syrup at the counter and the sassafras was pretty good. I'll come back to try the Detroit slice next time. They have vegan Detroit style pizza. I didn't try it but it looks good.
This has become my go-to, laid-back pizza joint, and I'm here at least once a week to hang out with friends on the hill. While the floors and furniture have seen better days, I really enjoy the music murals on the walls. The pizza is consistently good, and I'm a big fan of the non-alcoholic soda jerk specialties!
We had time between scheduled tours in DC and decided to grab lunch nearby. Very happy to have found this place. We would definitely return. My wife got the ham and pineapple, which was probably the best I’ve ever tasted. I got the Butcher Block and liked it a lot. There seemed to be plenty of seating for the lunchtime crowd, with some of it outdoors. Give this place a try if you’re in the area. I bet you like it!
Great option for families with kids! Close to the Capitol. Seating is upstairs so it looks vacant at first, but it's a hive of seating and people upstairs. After a Capitol tour with our state rep's office, the kids and I took a short Lyft ride to this pizza-by-the-slice restaurant. So. Many. Options! Everyone got what they wanted, price was reasonable, service was fast. The kids each got pepperoni and I devoured their butternut squash pizza (seasonal option). Glazed onions, balsamic drizzle - so good. We split a basket of garlic knots with marinara.
