VeLa Brunch&Thai Restaurant

Had a great time at Vela Thai this weekend. Ordered Roti Dip, Vela Omelette (Crab) and Khao Soi (w/Tofu). Roti Dip - 4.5/5 served hot and the dip was delicious. Only thing that got to us was how oily the roti was, but it still tasted divine. There are 2 medium sized rotis offered on each plate, perfect for those looking to share. Vela Omelette - 4.5/5 - got the version with crab, but they offer a version with duck as well or even higher priced one that has both meats. Extremely rich Massaman curry lines the creamy omelette topped with the crab. Overall the dish was delicious. Highly recommend! This restaurant used to be called Santi Thai fusion. But they changed ownership and the new owner did a good job redecorating the restaurant. The transformation looks good. Although in some areas I feel it is not 100% there yet. Went with my 92 yo mom and son. We ordered three main dishes and one appetizer and the receipt came out to be $98. Rather on the high end side. The restaurant felt clean and the waitress was attentive. All of us felt that the food tend to be a bit too sweet. But OK for me. The boat noodle could be saltier and hotter. I was surprised they did not offer to bring the chili condiments even though we told them we were Thai especially given that my mom was there. The ข้าวยำแหนมทอด was good with strong flavor so we had to ask for more salad. The pork belly was good,

Very banger food. Really liked the roti dip and thai crab roll appetizers. The crispy outside with the soft crab inside was so good. The fried tofu and thai sausage were good too. The masaman short rib was amazing, meat fell off the bone. The kor moo yang was really tasty too, very tender. I tried my friend's pad see ew and the noodles were really soft and flavorful. The khao soi with short rib was really good too the short rib was huge and tender. I'd definitely come back to try their other dishes. For the drinks the ube matcha and pink matcha were both good. Thai tea was standard.

The food was so goood. The Masaman short rib was amazing ( the parata on the side was super flaky). Loved the Vella omlette too. Also recommend the Thai tea matcha. Possibly the best brunch I have had so far in the bay.

stumbled upon Vela while looking for a place to eat on Christmas. Found them on open table. Food looked good and Thai brunch seemed interesting. we ordered roti dip, stuffed French toast, velo omelette with duck, massaman short rib, thai iced coffee, lychee lemonade, & hot coffee. Everything was really good. I like Thai food and most of the Thai restaurants in the bay area are good, but vela definitely stood out & above your average Thai restaurant. I have been to Son & Garden in Menlo Park, which imo is more for the gram and the food was ok but presented beautifully. I was really surprised at how good Vela was & prices were reasonable. Service was great & they were very attentive. I talked to the staff & they had only been opened for 2.5 months. I was telling them the only thing missi
