Dinner was excellent. The food was delicious, with flavors that were both diverse and complex. The salmon roe was easily the best I’ve ever had, it was savory and full of umami without being fishy at all. I also had the chance to try some novel items, like monkfish liver and limpet clams. The chef was friendly and knowledgeable, making the whole meal a wonderful experience.
Lunch: Order from a kiosk and they will give it to go, or you can go upstairs to their seating area. The hand rolls were excellent. The bowl, very good. The only knock here is they are understaffed. They had a major line but only two people working? The order took 30+ minutes and there were only four groups ahead. Can't imaging the wait for when the line really hit. Just an FYI, you'll likely need patience at prime time lunch.
We didn't have any issues getting a reservation and came to celebrate our anniversary. While we inputted this into our reservation, there wasn't anything out of the ordinary of a normal reservation such as a card or a mention (which was fine but maybe a note if you're looking to celebrate other special occasions here). This was in DC so there was some street parking but always recommend allowing yourself some time to park if driving. Tucked away, once you go inside, there is a doorbell. They come down to escorted you upstairs. It's a nice space upstairs and pretty quiet, easy to talk and have conversation. The Omakase was a great experience and we loved everything we had. We also tried an uni tasting for an extra $100 which was absolutely worth it. Everything was great. While we didn't m
Dined at Two Nine on 3/7. Food was okay, service was great, and overall great experience. However as I went through the photos just now I accidentally found out that the sea urchin they served seemed to past the best before date of 3/6 which left a weird aftertaste to the whole experience. I know technically those sea urchins are still edible and not expired per se, but just not “at their prime,” but I would not expect to be served food that could also be sold at misfit market at a sit down-and-eat setting, and definitely not at an establishment that mainly serves “kaiseki-inspired omakase experience.”
The best omakase experience I’ve ever had. Chef Zach is truly an artist and expert of his craft. Every bite was crafted with such care and attention to detail, the flavors were out of this world. Every small dish was so unique, extremely fresh, and all sourced from local farms. The fish was also extremely fresh and practically melted in my mouth. Incredible intimate ambience. Would highly recommend this experience.
