Thip Khao Restaurant

Thip Khao was a delightful experience from start to finish. We chose it because it’s part of the Chase Restaurant Collection, and it absolutely lived up to expectations. The service was warm and attentive, the atmosphere casual and relaxing. The food, however, was the true standout. Every dish impressed, each one bursting with flavor and personality. The steamed catfish wrapped in banana leaves stole the show, tender, aromatic, and perfectly seasoned. Eating the fish with sticky rice by hand was a fun, authentic touch that added to the whole experience. If you find yourself in Washington, DC, Thip Khao is well worth a visit.

Remarkable! Thip Khao is one of those gems of a restaurant that you find and wonder how you've lived without it for as long as you have. The food here is exceptional. Think Thai food (kind of) on steroids - incredible flavors, dishes you've never heard of but should try, great service, nice atmosphere and reasonable prices. In the photos: a whole Bronzino, a pork dish (kind of like Thai street pork but better), a "salad" that was so full of flavor that you should order 2, noodles that are like Thai Pad See Euw (sp?) but far more flavorful, and some fun chicken wings. Make a reservation here - you will definitely be happy when you do. Highly recommended.

This was one of the best meals I have ever had in DC. There dishes are incredible. All the food is so tasty and fresh. Such an unreal meal!!!! Cannot wait to go back. We had the Pork Jerky, Lettuce Wraps (under Salads, Kee Mao, and the Branzino

The naem khao salad was the best part of the meal. Savory salad: crispy and non-crispy rice mixed, good acidity, peanuts add crunch, surprisingly not oily at all, and the cilantro adds great freshness. Could do without the lettuce. The tofu was average tamarind fried tofu, good snack as it was popcorn style. The old fashioned drink was okay. The Ta Dong drink was very unique and delicious, a sort of digestif. The banana leaf rice & vegetables dish was unfortunately mid, strong dill flavor but otherwise flavorless. Very much a filler. The drunken noodles were standard as well. Finally, the dessert was a light ice cream with sweet sesame rice. Highly recommend the dessert. Overall was not disappointed but the dishes are very very hit or miss. Do get the naem khao. Thai-schmai, this Laotian joint will blow your chopsticks off with flavor. I could eat the lettuce wrap dish all day, all night. It relegates something like a BF Wangs to an imaginary TV place. There’s some magical crunch to it that is akin to putting chips on your sandwich. Just amazing. The pad see ew is the best I’ve ever had. We got chicken with ours. The flavor is so deep. Umami bomb. We also got the jerky. Beef. So tender. Crispy and soft at the same time. Comes with sticky rice in a super cute little travel pouch. I picture hanging it on a stick carrying it when going fishing. As amazing is the food, the service is attentive but never annoying. Drinks great too. If this place was further down 14th street, it would be impossible to get into this place.
