We stayed here on 9/23/16 and I thought it was great. The B&B itself is the family's old home place which is divided up into 3-4 rooms each with their own bathroom. The proprietors live across the street so you really feel you and any other guests have the house to yourselves. There were snacks, fruit, and cereal provided. Bring you own drinks, sweetener and cream, but coffee and the coffee maker are provided. I slept well and was extremely comfortable. I would recommend this B&B to anyone needing to get away.
Wonderful hosts that live across the street. You are staying in a farmhouse and your backyard is a spectacular field view. Had fresh picked raw corn to eat from the hosts (who would have known). Location is ideal for launching point to/from Ocracoke or even a day trip there. Close to Lake Mattamuskeet, Bath, Washington NC. Check out the docks with commercial fishing boats at the end street. Although closed while we were there it looks like some of the best access to NC seafood when open and there is a least one seafood vendor.
The farmhouse is nice and well located to catch the ferry. We never encountered the owners but all correspondence via email was pleasant. The only drawback was the second B in B&B. Although, described as continental which is usually simple, this fell below that expectation. Make your own coffee and small sweet rolls in plastic wrappers in the refrigerator were minimal at best. But if you go prepared with food to cook in the well equipped kitchen all will be fine.
My husband and I found Tunnell Farmhouse B&B to be a quaint place for leisure and rest, with easy access to Mattamuskeet Reserve and the Ocracoke Ferry. Sandra and Dick Tunnell has turned it into a comfortable home away from home. We stayed a couple nights so we could see and photograph the fowl at Mattamuskeet before traveling to nearby Ocracoke for a few days' stay. The farmhouse was well equipped with necessities, a good variety of continental breakfast items, an exercise room and plenty of games and reading material. I was impressed with the time the owners have taken to make it a welcoming and "homey" place. The Tunnells are friendly and accommodating people, and Dick has wealth of knowledge of the history of the area.||
The perfect arrangment for people heading to Ocracoke on the Swanquarter ferry, or for birders interested in the many birding loctions nearby. With only three rooms, each with own private bath, this bed and breakfast (do it yourself breakfast in house kitchen) is lovely. You can bike or walk to and around town and Mattamuskeet Wildlife Refuge is a short drive. We will return for fall or winter birding. Historic Bath is also nearby.
