The Thayer

Good experience. Worth a try to soak in the history of the hotel. The food is good and pretty much what you would expect from most restaurants in the area. Lots to choose from on the menu. I get the impression that they are doing their best and I hope they keep this place going for many years to come, as there’s just a lot of character to the place and we need more like it!

We are local and decided to give the restaurant a try. It was a very disappointing experience to say the least. We frequently dine out and have experienced many restaurants and types of cuisine and levels of service. The food was low-quality and subpar. I ended up sending my entree back to the kitchen (only the 2nd time in my life I’ve ever had to do that). The manager was defensive in trying to justify the situation, but did end up taking it off our bill as requested. On our way out, the manager was at another table addressing a separate complaint. During our meal we heard that table talking about how dry and overcooked the ribs were. There are much better places to spend money on eating out in the area, in my opinion. Skip this place.

We were traveling out of town to celebrate our 13 yr wedding anniversary and decided to book a room at the Thayer as had never been there and looked like fun. This is a really charming place, friendly staff, comfortable appointed rooms. Reason giving it a 4 stars rather than a 5 stars is it was very warm in the room even with the air conditioning on and running at night, Room was a little small or compact as well although was very nice for the price point, also the bathtub was a little quirky turning it on, the food was excellent though and they had a nice menu and it arrived quickly for our evening meal as well but was a little slow for the breakfast meal and hash browns were a tad overcooked for the breakfast meal too but overall it was busy at the time also and food was ample and was g

We went later on a Saturday night and we were the only table in the whole place. Now if you want some excellent award winning food you need to go here. 1st my wife ordered a side salad with ranch and she said it was the best side salad she has ever eaten. Thats says a lot....we love our salads. The only thing about the side salad was it didnt come with the meal....bummer. I had the Sirloin and Ribs and my wife had the Filet Oscar. 1st of all my steak was cooked to perfection and the ribs were perfectly smoked....yum yum just writing this is making my mouth water. The waiter said the chef has won awards with his Ribs and other entrees. As I was shoveling in my amazing meal, My wife wasn't talking much either as she ate her steak. First time to eat here. The food was very good. However, our server was horrible! Waited for water refill after we had to mention it several times. Had to remind her of our drinks while we waited and waited. Our entrees were served while we were eating our first outs (salad and soup) and she tried to take our food before we were finished! For a place with such exceptional food the service should reflect that. Will give this place another try but if seated with same server we are leaving. We usually are 25-30% tipper with good food and service but we're less than 10% for this visit. Wish l could leave a 4star review for food but that wasn't an option.
