Beautiful building that cries out to be filled with warmth, shelves bursting with books, lining every wall, and the welcoming sounds of laughter, conversation, and love. Too bad it's not here. Books are on part of ONE wall. 90% of the books are centered around Christianity. The only highlight is the rolling bookshelf ladder and ceiling molding. The silence is deafening and upon leaving you will drive straight to the nearest library just to ward off the awful memories.
Great experience! I've visited Moscow over 10 times in the last 3 years, and I've had a great experience every time. I've been up for school, camp, visiting and the grace agenda, and every single time I've walked into the shop, I'm greeted with the two things I can't live without. Christ and coffee! Imagine a cross between Harry Potter and The Handmaid's Tale, and you'll have a glimpse of the design sense and politics of this shop. It is connected to a small new college focused on "classical" studies rooted in Evangelical Christian tradition. But, she kindly took my money for a good latté, so there was at least civility. The shelves prominently feature books advocating Christian Nationalism. All beautifully arranged, of course, like a kitchen in the Rep

Being connected with New Saint Andrews College, the clientele are all respectful. The staff are cheerful.
Walking into Sword & Shovel feels like stepping into a storybook — one where warmth, wisdom, and wonder come together under one roof. This coffee house bookstore isn’t just a place to grab a cup of perfectly brewed coffee or pick up a thought-provoking book — it’s a haven for the soul. The atmosphere is rich with purpose. Whether you’re sinking into a cozy chair with a book in hand or sipping a handcrafted cappuccino while deep in conversation, there’s a tangible sense of intentionality here. The staff are genuinely kind and knowledgeable — not only about the coffee they serve (which is absolutely top-notch) but also about the carefully curated selection of books that line the shelves. One standout treat for me is their iced London Fog — smooth, fragrant, and just the right balance of co
