The Silos Golf Club

Trussville (The Silos) is my local course so I come here quite frequently. The biggest changes I've seen with the new ownership is the Pro Shop, which was a very nice improvement. That's about the only improvements I've really seen other than the carts. The condition of the course is very rough, they have got to figure out drainage - most recently I visited 2-3 days after we had rain and the course was a complete mess. The GPS in the carts like to pick and choose which holes you can drive on which is annoying, the tee boxes are absolutely horrendous they desperately need leveling and sand or new topsoil put down. Driving range is nothing but rocks to hit off. And pace of play is non existent. Expect to be stuck behind 4 groups of 4 for the whole time. I had no one start for 20 minutes before me and by hole 4 I was behind 4 groups. Couldn’t even play a good game I had to wait 25 minutes in between shots. Greens are horrible. Fairways aren’t bad but the gnats are. Maybe when they fix it up it’ll be nice. For now they’re charging $60 for a worse course than a $30 municipal course.

This is my review and my opinion only. My 14-year-old son has played this course many times throughout his young golfing career. When it was called Trussville CC it had seen its better days. That's another story. Anyway, my son recently played in his annual Magic City golf tournament run by my favorite organizer, Ian Thompson. That's another story. Recently the course was purchased by someone else, and they named it the Silos. By the way, I understand that the Silos are located on the back nine. As soon as I walked into the clubhouse, I was amazed. They recently remodeled the pro shop and the grill too. I know there’s new ownership and it takes time but raising the price on an already bad golf course and all they have done is “open up to see the cahaba” doesn’t make the course better to play on. The greens are still crap, driving range is terrible. Also, don’t have 5 people in a group on the weekend, hire a Marshall and do it right. Improve the course, not the views. Put a pool in, you’ll attract more people.

Borderline rude at the pro shop. Customer service skills were terrible including one of the owners. Zero improvement to greens or fairways but they know how to clear brush. Price increases with the attitude probably not going to work out for you.
