The Refuge BBQ and Mercantile

We got delicious pulled pork and brisket sandwiches, and mine was so big I ate half of it and took the rest home and made another sandwich with it for lunch the next day. It's a little expensive, but you get a BIG sandwich. The line got pretty long, even on a snowy Saturday, so word has gotten around about how good it is. Definitely worth a short wait. It's great to see this little store opening again. The folks were very friendly. We will be back for sure!

My brother and I stopped in after doing a job this way. Little hole in the wall spot with a family of gold. Their food was phenomenal, the soda they have to offer is refreshing, I was able to get to know them and talk to them while I was enjoying the food. I know if I’m ever in the area I’ll certainly be back!

Refuge has the best brisket I’ve ever had. The launch was an amazing success. I see that some were frustrated by the limited supply, however all great BBQ has the risk of limited supplies. The run on the place means that the food is worth the wait and definitely worth returning for!! This place was worth it. Great food, feeding a great community. My hope is they find success and expand so we always have their food as a local option.

Travis and Allison have been serving delicious BBQ from their food truck in the Tuftonboro/Wolfeboro area for several years and have now moved into the former Tuftonboro General Store space. It's wonderful to see the General Store open again -- with a new purpose. The BBQ is amazing, and Allison's baked goods are to die for. I particularly like the giant chocolate chip cookies. They also carry coffee from Life on Mission, which is roasted right here in Tuftonboro. I also love that The Refuge is a family-run business, with their three children in the store, and the elder two who are teenagers helping out with the register. For some reason, Google has the wrong address listed currently. The Refuge BBQ & Mercantile is in the old Tuftonboro General Store at 150 Middle Road, Tuftonboro!

Excellent BBQ and baked goods. The options vary week to week, but they are all fantastic.
