The Old Fishtrap Seafood and Spirits

We have been told this was a good place to eat, so we gladly met our friends there for dinner. We were also warned it could be noisy at night, which also turned out to be true with happy regulars having a good time. A couple of us had beers, mine being a Guinness Stout on tap. For food, one had a burger (Trap Burger on menu), which is what he normally ordered there and likes. My wife had the Grilled Chicken with a salad. She was happy. The other two of us had one of the specials, Ling Cod Fish and Chips, which was quite good. Service was good and friendly.

Wow! I'm torn. Write an amazing review and reveal a hidden secret or share with the world that this establishment is the epitome of "don't judge a book by its cover." Obviously I can't help but choose the latter. Driving up we were concerned that Yelp had possibly catfished us and started wondering if maybe we should cross the street to the other restaurant. The decor was adorable. Came here for lunch. Had rockfish and chips. The fries were great but the fish was bland. Server was friendly, courteous and seemed like a nice person.

This is easily the best seafood I’ve had. We were especially fortunate to come when they had half-shelved oysters available as a special, and they were the BIGGEST oysters I’d ever had in my life. My partner got the crab cakes - we both agreed that they were the best crab cakes we’d ever eaten. I got the steamed clams and literally dipped salad leaves into the sauce because it was so good. According to the bartender, all the seafood is fresh and it definitely tastes like it. They were also so friendly and charming. What’s most unique is that by all accounts, this is a dive bar frozen in time. You walk in and there’s no frills, just find a seat.
